Electrical Energy Resolutions

I resolve to:

Replace one incandescent bulb with a compact flourescent bulb.

Replace all incandescent bulbs that are in use five minutes a day or more with compact flourescent bulbs.

Call my electric utility and learn whether they sell "green" (or renewable) energy; if so, I resolve to purchase renewable power equal or greater than  _____ percentage of my average monthly kwhr use. If not, I will ask them why they do not sell renewable power and when they plan to sell it.

Learn about "time of use" metering from my local electric power utility. If "time of use" (TOU) metering is available to me, have it installed at my home or business and learn how to use it to my advantage to save money and simultaneously reduce the need for additional fossil fuel electric power generating plants.

Operate my electric dryer only during off-peak (evening) times.

Install a timer on my electric water heater to ensure water is not heated during daily peak KWHR consumption time.

Purchase a plug-in hybrid.

Learn about the new "smart grid" and ensure my local power utility will aggressively participate in its implementation.

Purchase and install a renewable power resource (solar hot water, solar pv, wind power) for my home or office which is designed to produce ____ % of my electrical need.

Invest ___% of my investment portfolio in a renewable energy company or investment fund.

Learn and set the energy conservation features on my computer.

Replace any non-energy-star appliance in my home or business.

Lower my electric heat created home or office thermostat by one degree.

Replace electric baseboard heaters with energy efficient room heat exchangers.

Find out what my local electric power utility might offer in terms of utility-managed demand-limiting controls for hot water and other large power consuming uses for my home or business.

Treat electricity as a precious resource by learning, then teaching, my children, my parents, or my friends about the options for being far more efficient and conservative with regard to electric power consumption.
